How Pony Pals Club came to life
Ever since childhood I have had a passion for horses. My first experience was helping a local girl with her horses on Canvey Island in exchange for a free ride.
When I met my husband Wayne in 1989, I finally realised my dream of owning my own horse, a six-month-old black cob called Taffy who is now 33 years old and you can meet him when you come to Pony Pals Club. He has been everywhere with me and is the most loyal and the best friend I could ever ask for.
Together with Wayne, we purchased several other horses until the birth of our first child. We then moved to our current home in Wickford where Pony Pals Club was born.
We later on rescued Blackie, Titan, Tarot and Little Taffy who became the first members of the Pony Pals Club Team. In May 2012 we experienced a family tragedy and need to raise money to pay for a family funeral and a friend suggested that we hired out our ponies for rides to help raise funds. We welcomed our first customers in may 2012 providing Pony Rides at the Canvey Sea Wall.
My Mother named the club “Pony Pals Club” and so our business was born. We are still a close knit, family run business with only a small number of Pony and Horses all of which has had a forever home with us from the moment they came through the door.
We have Ten Ponies on our license, Titan, Tarot, Blackie, Johnny, Casper, Olaf, Fifi, Toby, Dolly and Troy. We also have 5 private horses Tommy, Cookie V, Miss Blue, Big Taffy and Indio.
You might be lucky enough meet the rescue donkeys Danny and Daphne who love a cheeky carrot or two. Our Ponies, Horses and Donkeys are all special in their own way, we even have unicorns for your children to meet!
We are open at Pony Pals Club for 4 months of the year and the rest of the year we private hire the Beechwood Equestrian Centre.
We cater for children from the age of 18 months to a weight of 11 stone and love to work with children with special needs.
With our team of loyal volunteers who love the ponies as their own, we provide Lessons, Birthday Parties, School Events, Events, Weddings and much much more.
